Easy Lessons

These lessons are easy to follow. I explain what things are, and what they do.

You will not get frustrated, confused, or angry at the computer or me, since my lessons are in plain language that is not meant for the computer genius. There are some new words that will have to be learned, but even that will be made easier than doing it on your own.

There is even extra help for those who miss something or don’t understand a concept or way to do things at no extra cost. I will work with you until you understand and are able to master whatever it is you are working on.

No crashing computers

I crashed my computer so many times and lost everything I had accomplished; and many pages of journals and private diaries that I rewrite and post online had vanished along with everything else… This won’t happen to you. You will know what is Okay to touch and what isn’t.

I don’t want anyone to struggle with the issues I had and consequently give up learning an important tool that you need today in life. Many think they are too old to learn the computer and don’t want to bother with it. Can you say that today? It may not have been important back then, but every company expects you to order online, apply for a job online, file it online, or do something else online. Even the government expects it, so how are you supposed to do that if you don’t know how? or if you don’t even have the internet?

I know of one lady my age who has to sit through long classes a distance away because she can’t take these necessary classes for her job. There is really no need for this to happen to anyone. Don’t let your parents and other loved ones fall any further back from the rest of the world than they are right now. Sign up today for these classes.

Even students need to do research and school work online. Some students do not know how to do that. These lessons will help you too and give you the upper hand.

Just one wish

If you were given just one wish, and that is the only wish that you would ever get in your life, what would be your one wish? Would it be for glamour, happiness, money, power, world peace?

I know what I would ask for; I would ask to be given the same opportunity that Adam and Eve had. If you stop to think about this, what would that exactly entail? Well, according to the story of creation, Adam was created first, and Eve was made from Adam’s rib, and she was presented to him. They were told they were husband and wife. He was so happy that he said “At last, this is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones.” He was grateful to have a mate to keep him company and be a complement of him.

In the garden of Eden Adam and Eve were perfect. Just think, Adam was created perfect; that was a perfect body and a perfect brain. What could be contained in a perfect brain? In my mind’s eye, I would never forget anything, not names, or conversations, or anything I have ever learned in my life. Math would be a snap for problem solving would not be a problem. We could easily learn any type of work that we wished to learn and only have to be told how to do things once. An infinite amount of information would be stored in our brains. Can you imagine that? All these things and more would be attained in just one wish.

The things that I have learned in my lifetime are so small compared to what I would love to explore and learn about. I would love to learn to read music and play the piano, the guitar, the flute, every instrument there is. I want to know all the species of animals, plants, fish, and trees. Then there is food so many foods I’ve never known and let alone tasted. I would have always liked to have my hands in the dirt to grow things, but the heat and the sun have been my adversaries. We get sick, old and die. Right now that is a fact of life. Will it ever be different from what it is today? What would be the benefit of that? What would you like to do? Swim with the whales? Explore the jungle? Pet a tiger or a lion, ride a hippopotamus? Nothing would be unattainable with just one wish.

How would the earth be? Would there be global warming today? How about air, water and soil pollution? Would they be here today, or would the earth be perfect too? It would have to be since mankind would not be ruining the earth. Think how green the grass would be, the deserts would be filled with life and beauty, the oceans would be oh so blue. That is to say that man is ruining the earth; all because of greed, selfishness and wickedness in the world. Think of what the earth would have been had Adam not sinned. There would be no imperfection. Think what men do now. Trash is everywhere, people are greedy and so food for their people sit on the docks rotting, cruelty is at a peak, the list goes on and on. One wish would clean the earth of selfishness.

So many of us have been there, and we all have looked at those things too. Not the exact situation, not the same problems, but yes, similar thoughts. The solution? Alanon has it right about turning to God. You have it within your sites. You asked God what His will is for you. In the gist of the answer, he has told you. Your day was a bit better, everything you did was a bit better, even your thoughts were a bit better. You are on the right track, keep seeking what Gods’ will is for you.

Finding the Courage to Change

In one of my Alanon books, One Day at A Time, there is a quote on page 21 that reads, “If I an see myself clearly and honestly in relation to my present circumstances, I will not become the victim of self pity or resentment. If I do what I should I will be at peace with myself. It is only when I compare my lot in life with that of others that the destructive emotion of self-pity is allowed to engulf me”. Quahogging and Boats

I remember going quahogging before the tide went all the way out and we were still able to stand in the water while we did the twist and kept digging our feet into the sand beneath the ocean shore. When we felt some quahogs in the holes we dug we’d have to bend down and grab them before they dug deeper and we’d have to dig some more. (This was in the 1950’s, before the twist was invented mind you) Our father would get us out there before the tide went all the way out because that was the time everybody and his brother would come out, at low tide.

The quahogs tasted best when they were made into clam cakes. Georges made the best ones, but they still had sand in them, not as much as ours did though. The tastiest ones came from Rocky Point’s Pavilion.  The seagulls loved them too, and if you weren’t careful, they’d snatch them right out of your hands and fly away and you were left without any and crying. We did love the ocean though.

I remember when our parents had the boat, sometimes our father would let us ride on the bow, on the wrong side of the windshield. We would sit against the windshield, and hook our arms over the windshield and hang on for dear life, because our father loved to fly across the wake of other boats, it was no wonder why we always had arms that were black and blue. Now, if mom was with us, she never would let us do that, but we always had to sit inside the boat with life jackets on and buckled up tight. I don’t know why, we all knew how to swim, our father made sure of that while we were young, long before we started school.

When mom would come with us, she always would ski behind the boat, and she was good at it. We would watch her as dad would find the biggest wake from the biggest boats out there and he would just bounce across them. We loved it and mom did pretty good and didn’t fall too much, but when she did, our father would slow the boat down and turn back to pick her up. Most of the time she would just put her skis back on and get up as he started out slowly, and when she was all the way up, he would pick up speed and go flyin’ across the wakes again.

Oh, we certainly had some good times out there on that boat. I remember it had a big, green Mercury motor that started with a pull cord like a lawn mower. Dad let me try to pull it a time or two, but I never could pull it hard enough to even have it turn over. One time I’m not sure how this happened, or why, but I remember the fog. It closed in on us kind of quick it seemed like. The quiet was all I could hear with the fog horns of a boat, or the lighthouse. I don’t remember that well, I was only about six or seven. Sound traveled far in the fog, and we had to keep totally silent until help came. I don’t know if they happened upon us, or if my dad had lit flares, and I don’t remember why we couldn’t go anywhere, but we had to be towed and that is probably why we were stuck in the fog hanging on to a buoy. I saw the rope between us and I’m glad, I was cold and it was dark, and I was scared. I couldn’t wait to get back home so I could look at the big acorn tree and watch the branches that looked like big fluffy clouds, when they had leaves, dance across the ceiling in my room. I loved watching them until I fell asleep.

The Wilderness

Many people regularly go hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and do all sorts of outdoor things and I can understand why they love the outdoors; but when city people go camping, or rent a cabin for a couple of weeks, the difference of being in the woods with nature all around us has a profound effect on each one of us.

The very first thing that is noticed is the quiet of the wilderness. Sometimes the solitude just screams at us and it makes my ears ring without the city noises polluting our senses. The decibels produced by the sound of traffic alone can be deafening, and add to that, construction, machinery, people, and loud music makes one almost want to scream for it to stop, which would not be heard above all the city noise. That’s why the first thing noticed is the quiet. At first one seems oblivious to the natural sounds that are heard in the woods; but once settled into the new environment for a couple of hours, you begin to notice the pleasant sounds of the different birds and the animals out there in the woods. Not only are their sounds noticeable but you’ll feel that your heart is calm, and you begin to know your sanity is returning to you.

I relish the first few hours of solitude that is felt as I sit on the porch and take in the sounds of nature and see the many birds and spot the animals making those pleasant noises. They scurry here and fly there taking care of their lives, and no one bothers them. They don’t even seem to notice you being there, and they continue with their lives gathering food and chattering to each other and warning others to possible dangers.

It makes one take notice and remember that in the grand scheme of the creation man is only a speck of dust in the eyes of our Creator. Yet He is everywhere around us and so is His magnificence. We see color, we taste many different flavors, and smell fresh air, and a variety of odors. Man is at the top of the food chain. Our God has created all these things for mankind’s pleasure. Much thought and planning went into the design of the heavens, the earth, and life. A need to worship something has been built into us and at times like these the desire to thank our Creator is a top priority that we automatically have and fulfil at a time such as this.

It’s a time to contemplate our lives, where we have been, where we are today, and where we are going in the future. Our lives are too short to care about color of skin, the people of different cultures and nationalities. They are the same as we are, want the same things we do, want peace, and have no fears in their lives.

Have you ever been to the ocean and seen firsthand the mammoth sea creatures? On a small boat watching a pod of Orcas, coming up to watch us as we watch them? They swim in front of us and in circles within the circle of boats. They breach the water and sometimes they come so close to us that you cannot help but feel so intimidated by the sheer size of them in comparison to us. Even their babies are immense and intimidating. At least that is how I feel each time I see them up close in their own habitat.

Now, just think about how huge they are and how capable of coming up under a boat and tipping it over. The people thrown into the water with them, that would be a terrifying act to be caught in. Yet, that is not their normal behavior. They are wild animals and at times they become wild for a reason that only they know, but it is out of the ordinary for them to become wild. They are just as curious about us as we are of them.

Think of all the animals’ others have seen that are mammoth in size. It is not built into them to kill, except for food; and there are large and small animals that are not meat eaters. Don’t you think that takes forethought and planning, and a knowledge of how the elements work to have a balanced ecosystem?  The earth, and life itself was created with everything it needed to sustain itself. It is mind boggling to me. We will never have the knowledge that our God has; it is as simple as that.

But life and all the glorious creation is all around us no matter where we are on the earth. I’ve not been out of North America, but I love to travel in my recliner. There is serenity on this earth outside of the cities; and everywhere you go there is silent beauty.
